I don’t do much formal watercolour painting these days, but here’s a selection of old work.

I found your website by accident, looking for a photo or drawing of a little bird I spotted in my neighbor’s backyard. The bird was only there for a few moments but neither of us had seen anything like it. It was about 20 feet away so we couldn’t get a good look at it, but by the color it may have been someone’s escaped pet! It had a bright fire engine red hood/head and a bright yellow belly – it was facing us so we couldn’t see the back. If you have any ideas – we live in Edmonton, Alberta.

I love your drawings and observations. Have you ever been out in this direction? Elk Island Park has a huge bird population in the summer. I live in the city and there is an amazing collection of birds in my own back yard.

Thanks, Shawna! No, I’ve never been out west (hope to make it out that way eventually, though). Red head and yellow belly sounds like a male Western Tanager, which would occur in your region. Good luck ID’ing your bird!

Fabulous as usual Jo – love the way you do it!
Could you get in touch, please? – thanks – Tim

Happened upon your site by accident, but wanted to say that I really enjoyed looking at your sketches and paintings :)
